A school fundraiser in Kingussie has hit the target and didn't the pupils just love it!

Three teachers at the town's secondary school were put in the firing line after being voted for by students and they were joined by deputy headteacher Gavin Murphy who for reasons unknown to the Strathy actually volunteered to join his colleagues.

In the stocks – so to speak – with him were biology teacher Rebecca Breau, guidance teacher Fraser Munro and PE teacher Callum Carson.

A fantastic £760 was raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust from the sponge-throwing and other events recently.

Tate Goldsmith, a member of the school's S6 senior leadership group, said: "As it was childhood cancer awareness month in September, myself and others in our S6 senior leadership team saw the opportunity to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust by organising events on the last week of September.

"We chose Teenage Cancer Trust to donate to as it felt more personal to us to support an organisation that helps teenagers just like us who are going through cancer feel more normal again.

"We did our best to raise as much money as we could by holding a bake sale of tasty home-baked treats, made by S6 students, on the Tuesday.

"We had pupils in the school put donations into buckets to vote for their favourite teachers to get soapy sponges thrown at them on the Thursday and if a student wanted to throw the sponges themselves all they had to do was put in a donation.

"Finally, we held a dress down on that Friday (September 30), with a minimum donation of £2. All of the donations and hard work of the senior leadership team meant we were able to raise £760 to give to the charity who will use this money to improve the lives of teen cancer patients all over the UK."

Headteacher Ian Adamson was delighted with the outcome – including staying dry himself.

He said: “Well done to all those involved!”
