PICTURES: Stunning private art works to go on show in Grantown
Next week sees a one-off opportunity to view a wonderful collection of private works just created by a talented Badenoch artist.
The Bank House in Grantown will be opening its doors briefly next Saturday (May 20) to celebrate the completion of a large scale commission carried out by Claire Macdonald.
The commission consists of 12 paintings in the panelled dining room based on the four seasons and inspired by places within the Scottish landscape that hold meaning for owners Guy and Joahnna Hutchison.
The paintings are the culmination of two-and-a-half years work from Macdonald’s home studio in Kincraig, which were created during the second Covid lockdown.
She recalls: “The project began as 12 murals but very quickly it was clear that to honour the house they needed to be paintings and they would take much more time.
“It has been a fascinating and challenging process that has deepened my practice immeasurably. I feel very privileged to have been gifted the space for the painting to come to fruition.”
In a rare opportunity to see the works in the flesh and hear the artist talk about the process of creating such a large sale commission, the Bank House will be open for viewing from 11am to 3pm on May 20 – entry is behind The Spey Bank Studio – with an artist’s talk on ‘Walls for Wellbeing’ starting at 3pm.
