Sun sparkles on shovels as they start on Aviemore hospital

Work is under way on Badenoch and Strathspey's £15m community hospital.

Friday June 28, 2019 entered the history books as D-Day – digging day – for three special shovellers chosen to mark the start of the project.

They represented Badenoch (Sheena Slimon, Friends of St Vincents Hospital, Kingussie), Strathspey (Celia Bloomfield, Friends of Ian Charles Hospital, Grantown) and the brave new future (Lucy Jones, Aviemore) and went to work under a cloudless sky.

All who gathered at the Dalfaber site in Aviemore trusted the perfect conditions were an omen for the planned 20-month construction of the state-of-the-art community hospital.

Thursday's Strathy will carry details of the ceremony and focus on the way "community" has featured in the ambitious project from day one.

All those who gathered in the sun saluted the consultation process which had brought everyone together during an eight-year preparation for the lifting of the first turf.
