Pensioner fell asleep at wheel and collided with lorry and car by Aviemore

A 70 year old retired Hampshire man fell asleep at the wheel on the A9 near Aviemore and collided with a lorry and another car.

The incident happened near the B9152 junction on August 31, 2021, injuring William Knowles of Upper Froyle, Alton.

He admitted careless driving by taking the wheel when he was tired, falling asleep, crossing the carriageway and hitting an oncoming lorry and another vehicle.

Knowles was fined £840 and had his licence endorsed with nine penalty points at Inverness Sheriff Court today.
