British Empire Medal recipient Pat Cruickshank was delighted not to receive her award at Buckingham Palace this week.

Instead, the medal came to her in Aviemore!

The 62-year-old community stalwart told the ‘Strathy’: "I could never have taken all 110 of these lovely people with me to the Palace, and I wouldn’t have wanted to be without any of them.

"My dear friends and my lovely family – we have all had an absolutely wonderful day."

Mrs Cruickshank was instead visited on Saturday by the Lord Lieutenant of Inverness, Donald Cameron of Lochiel.

Relatives came from all over the country for Pat’s big day, to enjoy music played by family members and food provided by the hotel.

"I can’t thank everybody enough," she said, "especially my husband, Willie, who has put up with so much and at times has hardly seen me."
