The deletion of a small section of the U2284 Coire na Ciste road at Cairngorm Mountain has been approved from the list of Highland Council's adopted roads.

Members of the local authority's Badenoch and Strathspey area committee approved the move at their meeting held online and at Grantown's Townhouse earlier today.

Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd submitted a planning application for the reconfiguration of the existing car park and provision of infrastructure for overnight camper van facilities.

The council’s transport planning team was consulted as part of the application and the area roads team was approached for their view regarding the partial deletion of the adopted road, that would form the access for the re-configured parking facility.

The proposal, which was supported by officers, will delete the section of the road that continues beyond its junction with the U3076 ski link road. Area committee chairman Councillor Bill Lobban declared an interest in this item which precluded him from involvement.

Vice chair, Councillor Russell Jones, who then took over as chair, said: “We are pleased to be able to approve this application which will enhance the visitor experience at Cairngorm Mountain.

“There will be a slight reduction in the area of road maintenance revenue budget but this will be matched by the reduction in maintenance responsibility.”
