New year starts at pace in Aviemore

The strath's parkrunners couldn't wait to get started in 2022.

This morning saw 91 people run, jog or walk the popular Aviemore course.

There were 31 were first-timers and seven new personal bests were recorded, with representatives of 17 different clubs involved.

As ever, the event was made possible by stalwart volunteers, this week's heroes being Wendy Grigor, Calum Johnston, Pete Wright, Katie Hanson, Martin Wares, Hilary Quick, Zoe Russell, Bill Dewitt, Janette Macleod and Sue Oxley.

The event welcomed parkrunners from all over the UK and a good number of locals joined them to celebrate the end of 2021, a year which had seen some disruption to the runners' calendar.

One of the organisers, Hilary Quick, told the Strathy just how significant the runs were to those who took part: "Going to parkrun on a Saturday is a great way to kickstart the weekend, meet with like minded people – and for those who have a new year resolution to get fit it's perfect. You can walk, run or jog the 5km, since parkrun is about your aims and your needs."

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Aviemore parkrun Results Page.

The event now, hopefully, is fully back on song with a weekly run back on the calendar.

The runnres meet just before 9:30 at the end of Dalfaber Industrial Estate. All the details can be found at www.parkrun.org.uk/aviemore
