One man in critical condition after A9 crash near Dalwhinnie
One man is described as being in a critical condition and another suffered serious injuries after a crash between an HGV and car which resulted in the Highlands’ arterial road being closed for eigth hours.
The accident occurred at around 12.10am earlier today about half-a-mile south of the A889 junction near Dalwhinnie.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Five men within a black BMW X5 four by four vehicle were travelling in a northbound direction. One of the men is described as being in a critical condition whilst another received serious injuries and the three other men sustained minor injuries.
"Two of the men with minor injuries, along with the man in a critical condition were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The man with serious injuries and the other man with minor injuries were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
"The driver of the Mercedes HGV, which featured a white cab and a red trailer and was travelling in a southbound direction, was not injured in the collision."
Emergency services attended and the casualties were removed from the scene by both helicopter and by ambulance.
The road was closed for around eight hours whilst the Highland and Islands Divisional Road Policing Unit officers carried out an investigation. The A9 re-opening at around 8.45am.
