HOT OFF THE PRESS: These are the actual readings from local weather stations

Readings from local weather stations show just how hot it was across the strath as Badenoch and Strathspey sweltered as never before on the second weekend of July.

Highland, Islands Moray and Aberdeenshire Weather, the Carrbridge-based meteorological service, posted these readings on its FB page on Saturday just before 6pm at the peak of the two-day heatwave.

“I normally only post this data in the members group, but here it is as it’s a memorable day with new records set,” explained the man with all the weather stations, Lee Schofield.

“There were several sites around the Aviemore, Carrbridge, Boat of Garten and Grantown area at 32/33c.

“Also around the Great Glen there were areas seeing similar values.”

Mr Schofield clarified: “These are RECORDED values, not from pointless phone apps, which have no clue what the actual temperature is in these locations.”

The general forecast for the country is that from today - for a while anyway - the readings will fall with things become a little more comfortable as the week progresses, with rain reportedly on its way towards next weekend.

The news will come as a huge relief to land workers across the area who have been working overtime ensuring that the record wildfires between Carrbridge and the Dava moor don’t flare up again.
