A nursing home’s maintenance manager been praised for the way he dealt with a small fire in Grantown.

A dozen local firefighters in two fire appliances were called out to a stone cottage at the back of Grandview nursing home used for training purposes shortly before 2pm yesterday.

Dinah Eavis, owner of Grandview, said a faulty thermostat on a heater had caused it to go on fire but the home’s maintenance manager Rab Adamson had responded well and extinguished it, however the firefighters were called in accordance with safety procedures.

Grantown Watch Manager Neil Mutch said everything had been properly by the nursing home staff.

However he added: “Two of our firefighters donned breathing apparatus to enter the building to ventilate it and check everything was okay. The incident was dealt with in about half an hour.”
