'No plans' for emergency Covid-19 beds in Kingussie

NHS Highland has said that it has no intentions of using two health facilities in Kingussie as part of contingency plans during the coronavirus pandemic.

Rumours had been spreading in the Badenoch capital that there were plans for those with Covid-19 to be cared for at the Wade Centre in the town's Spey Street.

There were also concerns that there might be plans to open up the first floor of the town's St Vincent's Hospital as a means of coping with any overspill from Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and associated centres.

But a spokesperson for NHS Highland confirmed this morning that there were no such contingency plans for the Badenoch health bases.

A health board spokesperson said: "While we have been looking at what extra capacity could be used, should it be needed, there are no plans to use either the Wade Centre or St Vincent’s Hospital."
