Now Newtonmore festivities join the cancellation list

The committee of the Newtonmore Winter Lights Association has told the Strathy that they have bowed to the inevitable over Covid-19, like to many other strath communities.

"We have been considering the implications of the Covid-19 restrictions that are likely to be with us for the foreseeable future," said spokesman Graham Fraser.

"We have also taken advice from Highland Council regarding the holding of public events at present.

"Regretfully, we have concluded that events due to take place this year must be cancelled."

Lost in the cause of public safety are:

The November fireworks and bonfire

The Christmas Eve Santa and Reindeer procession

New Year’s Eve Torchlight Procession and New Year fireworks.

Notices are going up around the village confirmation the cancellations.

Other communities, including Kingussie, which recently announced the postponement of its reborn Hogmany torchlight processon, are focussing on 'bigger and better' events next year.
