Newtonmore power lines coming down
Sunday (June 28) will now not see the lowering of the last set of power lines across the A9 and the Highland Main Line railway at Etteridge, Newtonmore.
Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission aimed to reduce the road to a single carriageway and trains were due to be stopped for short periods to allow the safe lowering and removal of wires by SHE Transmission’s contractor, Balfour Beatty.
But this morning (Friday June 26) the work was postponed on ScotRail's request.
The removal of 40km of 132 kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Etteridge and Boat of Garten was made possible by the construction of the new Beauly-Denny line. A further 53km of line has already been removed between Boat of Garten and Cairnmore in Aberdeenshire.
SHE Transmission project director Alastair Brand said: “Our team will be working hard to complete this challenging job safely while keeping delays to a minimum. The work has been carefully planned and will be carried out in stages to allow traffic to clear regularly.
“Activity will continue in the area while we remove the remaining 132kV steel towers and reinstate access tracks.”
But a new work date is now awaited.
