Scottish Water is investing in upgrading the sewer network locally and information will be collected in person from the community as part of the build-up.

The company is spending £1.8 million in Newtonmore to address historical flooding events in the village’s Main Street.

The work involves laying around 650 metres of new sewer along Golf Course Road, Main Street and Church Terrace to Clune Terrace.

It is expected to take around nine months for completion

“Colleagues from our delivery partner, Caledonia Water Alliance, will be in attendance with project staff to answer any questions customers may have,” said a spokesperson for Scottish Water.

The drop-in event will take place between 4pm and 7pm in Newtonmore Village Hall on Main Street.

“We have planned work to upgrade the new sewer network in Newtonmore to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding,” Scottish Water explained.

The work is planned to get under way from November 20.

The water company has advised: “There will be local disruption during the construction of these upgrades and we would like to share our plans and discuss them.”

It is understood that there could be major traffic works on the village’s Main Street with single lane traffic restrictions.

Anyone with queries can call Scottish Water on 0800 0778778 quoting ref Capital/Newtonmore/CWA as well as attend the meeting.
