New series of The Mountain to return but with a twist
BBC Scotland has confirmed that hit show ‘The Mountain’ will get a second series – but this time will feature CairnGorm Mountain and Aviemore in the summer time.
The announcement has been welcomed by business leaders and some of the stars of the first run.
A BBC Scotland spokeswoman said: "We are delighted to confirm that there is going to be a second series of The Mountain. Audiences really engaged with the stories of people and their livelihoods in Scotland’s snow tourism business in the Cairngorms.
"But this time around it makes sense to focus on the summer season and find out more about the flip side of Aviemore’s tourism and the stories of people involved with that."
She said that it was too early to say who would be appearing in the new show.
One of the central stars of the first series, Callum Fraser, better known as Spud the Piper, said he was ‘absolutely over the moon’ to hear the cameras were returning this summer.
He said: "The first series was great and it was so much fun filming it."
As well as being followed by the TV crews as he performed resplendent in his Highland regalia, Spud also shared the story of his son, Euan, with viewers.
He said: "My wife Karen and I think it was great to get autism awareness out there and there is no better way than TV. Euan is coming on at skiing well and it’s really inspired me too to keep up skiing too so we can go together.
"Without The Mountain this may not have happened – since they really pushed me to take lessons. I’m so glad they’re doing another series and if they involve me again I’d be delighted."
Aviemore Business Association chairman Jonathan Gatenby was equally excited at the success of the Tern TV show.
He said: "It’s excellent news that The Mountain is to film again in Badenoch and Strathspey during the summer. This is another great opportunity to showcase the huge range of activities in the strath and to re-emphasise that we are a year-round, world-class destination.
"The recently-aired series had a big impact on awareness of the area and I am sure that the summer version, with its wider range of activities, will have an even bigger benefit.
"I am also sure that Spud will relish another bite at stardom!"
