New patient accommodation opens at Raigmore Hospital
New patient accommodation at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has reopened today after undergoing a major refurbishment which started in January.
The work, which was carried out by Morgan Sindall, cost approximately £300,000 and has seen a huge improvement to the facility.
Kyle Court gives patients who do not need to stay in a hospital ward but live too far from Raigmore Hospital to travel, a less clinical environment to stay in while undergoing treatment or investigation.
The number of bedrooms has increased from 28 to 32 and with twin rooms available, for example if a patient needs a chaperone, the building can now sleep up to 50 people if required.
There are now 23 toilets in the building compared to eight before, 22 of these have showers and 14 of them are en-suite.
Mr Chris Lyons, Director of Operations at Raigmore Hospital, is delighted with the refurbishment and hopes those who use it will be to.
He said: "We know from patient feedback that our patients like having this facility on site but it was in need of work.
"The work that has been carried out has made a huge difference to the facility and we are already getting feedback from our patient reps that they are very happy with the result."
An official opening will be held in the next few weeks where key players including charity and patient groups will get a tour of the facility and shown just what a difference the refurbishment has made for patients.
