New operator expected to be named soon for Glenmore Campsite

The public agency owners of the strath's busiest campsite have said they expect to be able to announce the new lease operator in the coming weeks.

Eleven parties put in tenders for Glenmore Campsite on the shores of Loch Morlich.

Government agency Forestry and Land Scotland has identified its preferred bidder for the 15 year lease with a 10-year option to extend and is now in talks to finalise the deal.

A FLS spokesman said: "The legals are going well but it is still looking like early November before we can make an announcement."

Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust (AGCT) put in a bid but was not shortlisted.

The community body is now looking to pursue a community asset transfer for the campsite and surrounding land.

Unanimous support was given at a recent public meeting attended by around 90 people – including many residents from Glenmore – for AGCT to try and wrestle control of the business.
