Exhibition date clarified for new Laggan distillery proposal

A proposal for a new distillery development near Spey Dam at Laggan was noted by today's planning committee at the Cairngorm National Park Authority.

At the same time, some confusion over an upcoming exhibition by applicants Speyside Distillery, of Drumguish was clarified, with planning officers correcting a typo in an earlier report.

At the meeting, both at their Grantown HQ and on line for those unable to make it in person, the Proposal of Application Notice was noted in accordance with due process.

With a PAN, officers present and assessment on any issues which need to be addressed, with members given an opportunity to note any issues which an application would be expected to address.

They were not asked to approve the advice of officers.

Speyside Distilleries want to build a distillery at Dalchully, near Laggan. The £20m project would include a marketing suite, maturation warehouses with associated access, parking, infrastructure and servicing.

Details of the proposal were revealed at an exhibition at Laggan Village Hall on September 2.

A further exhibition is to be held on October 11 – not the 10th, as erroneously stated in an earlier briefing – and a virtual event is also scheduled for October 4.

At the time of the exhibition, Mr McDonough told the Strathy: “It’s all very early days. We won’t be jumping any guns here since we really do want to take the community with us on this.”
