Cairngorms National Park Authority planners have said there is no problem with the principle of a new hospital at the chosen site in Aviemore.

The CNPA has now received the Proposal of Application Notice for the £15 million facility earmarked at the Cairngorm Technology Park at Dalfaber.

An overview of the application went before the park authority’s planning committee today at the Albert Memorial Hall in Ballater to give members the chance to note issues that the application will have to addressed by NHS Highland and its agents.

Park planners have stressed they are not being asked to judge the merits of the application.

Gavin Miles, the CNPA’s head of planning, states in the papers: "The proposal is for a new community hospital and social care facility that will support healthcare provision across Badenoch and Strathspey as well as the Aviemore area.

"It will maintain employment within the area in a healthcare sector that must adapt to society’s needs.

"We consider the principle of the proposal is acceptable and complies with the Local Development Plan.

"A subsequent planning application with detailed proposals would be subject to full consideration of servicing, design, landscaping, siting and environment issues."
