Match off could be a 'blessing' says Price
RATHER than halt Elgin City momentum, last week’s Borough Briggs postponement could be a “blessing in disguise”, says Gavin Price.
City boss Price wore a bemused look following the late call-off of his team’s clash with Cowdenbeath on Saturday, a match he was hoping would extend Elgin’s good league start.
On reflection this week, the manager is determined that the call-off will not disrupt City’s progress, and believes the subsequent pitch repair work will benefit his players.
“It will be a blessing in disguise that hopefully the pitch is going to play a lot better,” he said.
“We pass the ball reasonably well and the players we have compliment a good surface so hopefully it is a blessing that we’ve got an improved surface and we can use that to our advantage.”
Work this week to remove gravel on the surface was successful and this weekend’s home game against Stirling Albion is set to go ahead.
Rabin Omar didn’t train this week due to a hamstring strain and is a slight doubt for City, but Ross County loan striker Greg Morrison comes in to the squad for a possible debut.
Stirling have lost all four of their league games so far, but Price had them watched in last week’s 2-0 defeat against Peterhead and is aware that they will have important players back from injury.
“The likes of Darren Barr and Darren Smith are playing again and Kevin Moon might be ready as well, all key players for them who can make a huge difference to the team.
“I believe Stirling are in a false position just now and it’s only a matter of time before they start picking up points.
“We need to make sure while they maybe are low in confidence that we take full advantage of that.”
