Chachamaidee can go one better
Jersey Stakes
THE Jersey Stakes has been kind to the Al Maktoum family in recent years and Aljamaaher looks like he has a big chance of getting them back on the scoreboard. He took a step forward on his latest outing when winning in quite impressive fashion in a listed contest at Newmarket having never really been asked a serious question winning going away from the field hands and heels. He can race keenly as he did last time out and will need to settle better this time around but he is improving with racing and looks far from the finished article and has a lot more to come yet.
Windsor Forest Stakes
A good turn out for the Windsor Forest stakes and Emulous is sure to prove popular having won with out fuss on her re-appearance. She improved all through the 2011 season culminating in an impressive win in the Matron Stakes and repeat of that performance will mean it will take a big performance to beat her. A filly though I still feel capable of a big performance at this level is Chachamaidee. She too made a very pleasing come back when cutting down the field at Lingfield in a group 3 event, she looked to have too much on in running but flew home inside the final furlong passing most of the field to eventually win going away and should come on for that run with this having been the target for her for a while. She was beaten into 2nd in this race last year when she cruised through the contest but was cut down with a strong late run from the winner and she showed some improved efforts after that including at a mile in Sun Chariot Stakes behind Saphresa and returning to the mile here shouldn't be a concern so long as she settles and she has a strong chance.
Prince Of Wales Stakes
So You Think looked back near his best last time out when coming well away to win the Tattersalls Gold Cup and his previous runs on the tapeta in Meydan and dirt in the US can easily be forgiven and if he is near his best form he posted last year then he will be hard to beat. Carlton House was impressive back from a break in the Brigadie Gerrard, a steady pace he raced keenly early but he cruised through the race otherwise and going into 2 out it was just a question of when not if as he waited for the gaps to come for him and potentially we still haven't seen the best of him yet. Both are a bit shorter than I forecasted however and an interesting one to take a chance on is Farhh. He's looked the perennial group horse in handicaps on his last two outings and was most impressive on his recent outing. He has to improve a lot more on that yet but he is going the right way and has a lot more to offer. His dam was a 12 furlong group 1 winner in Germany and this step up in trip looks on the radar and could help bring about that further improvement.
Royal Hunt Cup
Price Of Johanne is my idea of a bet in this contest, this tough nut put in a big performance back off a break at York last time out in the Hambleton Stakes and looks set to go well again. He and Fury pulled clear of the field locked together in an exciting finish and I like the way he kept pulling out on the run in and in the end it was just a nose that split them at the line. It can pay to stay beyond the mile here as it takes it's toll on stamina in the finish in this race and having won up to 10f he certainly has that criteria ticked off. He also has big race experience having won the Cambridgeshire last year and although higher in the handicap than when winning that day, last time out he showed he can cope off his revised mark and he looks a solid runner for the race.
