THE North has a brand-new festival this summer with headliners Madness, Maximo Park and Paloma Faith unveiled today for Northern Lights in Aberdeen on July 30 and 31.

Tickets went on on sale through Ticketmaster this morning for the new two-dayer which is promising 50 acts on three stages plus a mix of international and homegrown acts such as Tinchy Stryder, Kelis, Idlewild, The Waterboys, The Futureheads, The Noisettes, Paloma Faith and Edwyn Collins.

There's also a dance line-up, so far including Mylo, Example, Audio Bullys and Sander Van Doorn.

Organisers have vowed there will be plenty of local talent featured alongside other up and coming Scottish acts such as The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks and The X Certs, originally from Aberdeen.

And a mystery guest headliner has yet to be announced.
