A YOUNG Caley Thistle side reached the North of Scotland Cup final after a narrow 1-0 triumph over Halkirk United at Harmsworth Park.

Only some heroic goalkeeping by Graham Williamson kept the North Caledonian League side in this encounter, although they did have opportunities of their own.

It was Kyle Whyte's goal in the 17th minute that was to eventually prove decisive.

Liam Polworth began the move, playing the ball to Andrew Greig, who produced a low cross that Whyte converted from close range.

Halkirk's Grant McNab was denied an equaliser by Ed Baldy, while at the other end Greig came close to getting himself on the scoresheet.

Inverness will now face the winners of tomorrow's other semi-final encounter between Nairn County and Forres Mechanics.
