AN Easter Ross distiller is on the crest of a wave following a quirky new collaboration that is seeing the wood from whisky casks reinvented in the United States as limited edition surfboards.

The Beyond the Cask creative collaboration has seen Tain-based Glenmorangie hook up with Grain Surfboards of Maine in New England, visionary creators of hand-built wooden surfboards.

The finished product is a thing of beauty — but you’ll need deep pockets to afford one with the limited edition collector’s items costing around £4200 apiece.

The signature white oak casks for Glenmorangie Original are only ever used twice in their whisky-making lifetime. To celebrate the wood that makes the whisky, the dedicated craftspeople at Grain Surfboards have built a series of exclusive limited-edition Glenmorangie Original wooden boards using reclaimed staves from Glenmorangie barrels.

Grain Surfboards founder Mike LaVecchia said" "It’s incredible that you can take a piece of wood that’s already worked hard and then give it a new life as something absolutely beautiful. "

The limited edition Grain Glenmorangie Original surfboards will be available to order from www.grainsurfboards.com
