Teenager’s body recovered from Glasgow river

The body of a 15-year-old boy has been recovered from a river in Glasgow following a search and rescue operation.

Emergency services were called to the River Kelvin, near Maryhill Road, at about 6.40pm on Saturday following a report the teenager was in the water.

A rescue operation was launched, and police confirmed the body of a male was recovered at about 11.30pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.40pm on Saturday, July 12, 2025, a search and rescue operation was launched following a report of a 15-year-old male in the River Kelvin, near Maryhill Road, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and around 11.30pm the body of a male was recovered from the water.

“Inquiries are ongoing, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The incident occurred on the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures exceeding 32C in Scotland for just the seventh time since 1961.
