HIGH winds are continuing to affect Ross-shire with the Kessock Bridge closed to high sided vehicles.

Road crews and Network Rail have been working to clear trees which were blown down onto main roads and rail lines as the storm batters the area.

A tree came down on the main A835 Dingwall to Ullapool road near Tarvie on Tuesday morning and the Munlochy to Culbokie road on the Black Isle was closed for a time when a tree crashed onto the road.

Network Rail staff were also out clearing a tree which fell onto the railway line at Craig Road in Dingwall.

Yachts broke their moorings and were washed onto the shore, while homes in Ross-shire were left without power for a spell on Monday night.

A spokeswoman for Scottish and Southern Energy said at the height of the storm, around 30,000 customers were off, with Argyll and Tayside worst affected.

"Our engineers worked late into the night to try and restore power and while there are still a couple of faults in Highland, the area was not too badly affected," she said.
