A SERIOUS two-car crash near Carrbridge closed the A9 trunk road in both directions for nearly two hours this afternoon.

The accident involving a Mitsubishi Outlander and a Fiat 500 car happened at about 2pm.

One casualty in the crash between Carrbridge and Slochd was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Their condition is unknown.

The incident – near the Blackmount junction to Carrbridge – closed the A9 in both directions until just before 4pm when a single lane was opened. Motorists were advised to use an alternative route.

The fire service sent three appliances.

They set to work stabilising the vehicles and cutting equipment was used to free those trapped in the vehicles.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Injuries at this stage look serious but not life-threatening. The air ambulance has attended and one of the casualties was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness."
