EMERGENCY repair work is being carried out at a popular Inverness footbridge after an eagle-eyed man noticed that the handrail was unstable.

It was while taking his dog out on Friday morning that Peter Sanctuary, 64, from Drummond Crescent, Inverness, noticed the handrail on the distinctive green footbridge at Ness Islands was corroded.

Worried about the loose railing, Mr Sanctuary contacted Highland Council who immediately taped off the area and a contractor carried out temporary repairs yesterday.

A Highland Council spokeswoman said they are awaiting quotes for a more permanent repair which will be funded by the Inverness Common Good Fund.
