Don Cowie thinks that Ross County's last two results in the league have sent a message to the rest of the Scottish Championship - that they are only getting better.

A 5-1 domination of Dundee United and a 2-0 win against Partick Thistle, both away from home, have given the Staggies a new air of confidence.

And ahead of the visit of league leaders Ayr United this afternoon, Cowie says that County feel ready to push on.

"I think maybe the last two results might have sent out a statement," Cowie said.

"We’re starting to gel, we’re getting better as the weeks go on.

"We always felt confident that we’ve got enough here to do damage in the league, but sometimes it just takes a bit of time to get going.

"Those last two results have really given us the confidence that we can kick on for the rest of the season."

That being said, Cowie says that the Staggies are not thinking they can stroll to victory against Ayr.

But he does have confidence that Ross County will be able to overcome the challenge, and return to the top of the league.

"Fair play to Ayr, they’ve had a tremendous start to the season," Cowie conceded.

"They’re obviously full of confidence, and scoring lots of goals.

"The amount of goals that they’ve scored, the confidence they’ll take from that, one game was pretty emphatic, and they beat Dundee United in their last league game as well.

"We’ll make sure we give them all the respect they deserve, but at the same time we feel like we’ve got a very good squad at our club, and we’ll feel confident against anybody.

"It’s a big challenge, but it’s one that we’re looking forward to because we know we can get the three points and get to the top of the table, and that’s where we want to be."
