THE Matrix Garage in Forres has been granted a 24-hour licence.

Moray Council's licensing committee approved the application last Wednesday despite concerns about possible antisocial behaviour and traffic noise from local residents.

Local residents had expressed fears, as reported in the Gazette last week, about the move.

Forres Community Council secretary Eleanor Hayward said she was "very disappointed" for residents living close to the filling station. The community council's objection was heard by members of the committee.

William Fraser (81), of Forbes Road, said: "When the garage was open 24/7 there was lots of trouble and things going missing every weekend without fail. The noise too was terrible at night from road traffic."

Heldon and Laich Councillor Amy Patience said if residents have concerns they can contact the licensing standards officer.

Forres councillor George Alexander said he sympathised with residents but there were no grounds for refusing the application.

A solicitor for Matrix, speaking at the meeting, said the firm would take action if any instances of antisocial behaviour emerged.
