A FIRE which caused serious damage to a house in Invergordon was still being treated as "unexplained" by police as the Ross-shire Journal went to print yesterday.

Emergency services have appealed for witnesses to the blaze in Inverbreakie Drive, or who may have any information about the fire, to get in touch.

Police made aware of the fire in Invergordon at around 5.30pm on Monday, October 22.

The fire, which started at a shed next to the property, was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue but not before causing extensive damage to the house.

Nobody was hurt and no damage was caused to neighbouring houses.

Cromarty Firth councillor Pauline Munro said she knows the householders, who have not been named, and is relieved they were unhurt.

"I have known this family for years and devastated for them, but glad they are all safe and hopefully they are receiving full support from the Highland Council," she said.

Appealing for information about the fire, a spokesman for Police Scotland said: "The fire is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police can call 101, quoting reference NE6469/18."
