MIDGE Ure has confirmed he will play an acoustic gig on May 28 at Strathpeffer Pavilion.

Now an OBE, Midge has had a full career including working with bands including Slik, Rich Kids, Visage, Thin Lizzy and Ultravox - where hit single Vienna was kept off the top of the charts by novelty hit Shaddap Your Face by Joe Dolce.

Midge moved on from Ultravox to work solo - releasing hit single No Regrets, debut solo album The Gift in 1985 and later number one single If I Was - before working with the band again in the late 80s and then resuming his solo work.

But his career had moved in a different direction in 1984 when the Ethiopian famine saw Bob Geldof co-opt him into co-writing Band Aid hit Do They Know It's Christmas which Midge produced. He also became a co-founder of the Band Aid Trust with Bob Geldof and with Bob and promoter Harvey Goldsmith co-organised the global charity concert event Live Aid.

Tickets priced at £25 on sale soon, but for reservations, call Strathpeffer Pavilion 01997 420124.
