Locals make tracks for Culbokie woodland
Hopes are high more people will find their way to a new orienteering course.
Around 120 enthusiasts of all ages tackled the new course set up in woodland at Culbokie. Culbokie Community Trust wants to encourage more locals to make use of the woods on their doorstep.
Director Penny Edwards said the turnout was "fantastic" and paid tribute to volunteers for making it such a success. Participants were a mix of young and old, and novices and experts. At least half the participants were under the age of 16.
Funding for the event was provided by Tulloch Homes and the Big Lottery, and the course itself was funded by the Big Lottery, Highland Council and the Forestry Commission.
Culbokie volunteers turned out in force to dig in the 29 posts marking the course. The Inverness Orienteering Club also helped with the course design.
Ms Edwards added: "The event and the installation of the course were tremendous co-operative ventures. Now the course is up and running, we hope lots more people will come along and have a try – maps are on sale at the Culbokie Spar shop and Culbokie Primary School, and can be downloaded from the "Woods" section of the CCT website."
