Police make 55th arrest in operation to tackle alleged gang feud

Police have made the 55th arrest in an operation designed to tackle an alleged gang feud in Scotland’s central belt.

Operation Portaledge was set up after a number of incidents including shootings, firebombings and assaults in the east and west of Scotland, believed to have stemmed from organised crime.

On Friday, police arrested and charged a 38-year-old man in connection with wilful fireraising and firearms offences.

He is due do appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Elsewhere, two 26-year-old men were charged for separate incidents, one damage to a property and wilful fireraising in Edinburgh last month and the other in connection with two vehicle fires in Port Seton, East Lothian in May.

Both will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
