Warning of A86 night-time closures near Laggan
Motorists using the A86 Newtonmore-Fort William road are being warned of night-time closures near Ardverikie from Sunday.
The surfacing improvements costing £65,000 is scheduled to run for three nights.
The upgrade will see a 250m section of the A86 resurfaced creating a smoother and safer road for motorists.
Work will be carried out between 7pm to 7am each night.
A BEAR Scotland spokesperson said: “Due to the restricted road widths on this section of the A86, an overnight road closure is required to ensure the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists.
As there is no suitable diversion route during the road closure, there will be set amnesty periods in place where motorists will be able to safely pass through the works.
“These are scheduled to take place when it is safe to do so at approximately 9pm, 11pm, 1am and 4am.
“All traffic management will be lifted outwith working hours.”
Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times and local access will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “This £65,000 investment for this section of the A86 will upgrade the existing road surface in the area.
“The overnight road closures are essential for ensuring the safety of road workers and motorists during the project, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to limit the impact on residents and motorists and minimise overall disruption.
“We’ve carried out consultation with all relevant stakeholders to inform them of our plans, and we’ve taken their feedback into account during the planning stages of this scheme.
“Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible and will make sure we continue to have amnesties for local access through the site.
“We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these essential road improvements on the A86. We encourage road users to plan their journey in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
