Pilot dead and passenger in critical condition after plane crash

A pilot has died and a passenger is in a critical condition after a plane crashed near North Berwick.

The 40-year-old male pilot was pronounced dead at the scene on Thursday afternoon, Police Scotland said.

A 42-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital in Edinburgh.

The crash happened in the East Fortune area, close to a former Royal Air Force station now home to the National Museum of Flight.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said the force “received a report of a light aircraft having crashed in the East Fortune area around 4.55pm on Thursday May 8”.

Inquiries are ongoing and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been notified, the force added.
