1300-mile cycle helps mental health charity
PEDAL power has helped the boss of the country’s leading heritage organisation raise funds for a mental health charity.
Francesca Osowska, chief executive officer of Scottish National Heritage (SNH), has completed a gruelling 1300-mile cycle around Scotland.
She started the cycle seven months ago and visited 39 SNH offices, including 13 national nature reserves, while generating cash for Scottish Action on Mental Health (SAMH). Her epic feat ended at Great Glen House in Leachkin Road – SNH’s headquarters.
The journey was divided into seven legs with SNH staff and the public joining in at various stages.
Ms Osowska said: "Completing the cycle feels absolutely amazing.
"Before the cycle there was a staff vote at SNH about what charity we should raise funds for. SAMH received the highest number of votes which shows there is a growing awareness of mental health issues."
Ms Osowska added: "It’s so important to connect with nature – getting out in the countryside is invaluable for both your mental and physical health. It is essential to help me cope with stress and to keep myself healthy and happy."
SAMH chief executive, Billy Watson, said: "Our sincere thanks to Francesca for choosing to raise money for SAMH.
"Her epic journey to bring together the SNH staff team is a great example of promoting a physically and mentally healthy workplace."
So far the ride has raised at least £1100.
