Woman dies following accident on A9
Police Scotland have confirmed that a woman died following a road accident on the A9 near Evanton yesterday.
The incident was reported to police shortly before noon and happened south of the junction for Evanton.
The 73-year-old victim has been named as Margaret Macbeath (known as Moira) from Alness, who was the driver of the grey Vauxhall Corsa which was involved in the collision, along with a Citroen Picasso and a Toyota Hilux.
Nobody else suffered any serious injuries.
The road was closed in both directions for several hours to allow for investigations and was reopened at around 6pm.
A diversion was in place via the unclassified road between Dingwall and Evanton.
Sergeant Donnie Mackinnon said: “Our thoughts are very much with Moira’s family and friends at this sad time.
“I would also like to pass on our thanks to everyone who was diverted past the collision for their patience and consideration while officers dealt with this incident.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would ask anyone who has information but has not yet spoken to a police officer to call the Road Policing Unit in Dingwall on 101 quoting incident 1486 of 27 June.”
