Farewell to playgroup favourite of 20 years
Staff and children at Noah’s Ark Developmental Playgroup on Balnageith Road will miss Lorraine Duff when she leaves to enjoy her retirement with husband Tom, who left LDN Architects last December.
Lorraine enjoyed a send-off organised by her colleagues - afternoon tea at Boath House, Auldrean.
Noah’s Ark staff said: “We don’t know what we’ll do without Lorraine - she is so welcoming and kind. She always has a good word to say about everyone and is an encyclopaedia of knowledge. Our friend is warm, understanding and always ready to offer practical advice.”
Lorraine was appointed playgroup leader in 2001 when she took over the running of Noah’s Ark.
She was delighted when, in 2004, the nursery was gifted a new purpose-built building by Springfield Properties.
Lorraine transformed it into an inclusive nurturing learning environment for mainstream children, as well as those with additional needs.
She also oversaw an extension in 2014 which the board of directors aptly named ‘Lorraine’s Room’.
That year, Lorraine stepped down as manager to become administrator.
Current pupils will also be sad to see her go.
Robyn Sewell (4) said “She likes working hard in the office.”
Lara Hepburn (5) added: “She looks after us at lunch and we like that.”
Tilly Gibson (3) likes her “granny cuddles”.
And Holly Sutherland (5) said: ‘“She keeps our toys safe and that’s a kind thing to do.”
A member of staff added: “Tom and Lorraine enjoy working in their beautiful garden and walking in some of Moray’s treasures. We look forward to seeing them driving around in Tom’s lovely new car, a retirement gift to himself!”
