A HIGHLAND motorhome company is gearing up for growth thanks to the popularity of the region’s iconic NC500 route.

North 500 Motorhomes, based at Torvean Caravan Park in Inverness, is in the process of growing its fleet and expanding into the central belt after a successful second season.

Launched in 2017, the company has invested over £1 million in its fleet of motorhomes and site in Inverness.

The company believes that motorhomes could be the solution to the popular route’s shortage of accommodation, particularly during the peak tourist season. Its Italian made vehicles offer two double beds and two bunkbeds, comfortably accommodating four adults and two children at prices starting at £100 per night.

Operations director Colin Harrison said: "Our first year was really about dipping our toe in the market and testing the level of demand. We couldn’t have hoped for a better start and our second season has exceeded expectations.

"The Highlands has a shortage of affordable accommodation, particularly at the height of the summer. Our motorhomes meet this demand, allowing more people to visit the Highlands and enjoy the NC500 route in an affordable way.

"Motorhomes are a fantastic way to explore NC500 and take in the breathtaking scenery or sample some of the region’s many superb golf courses. We have welcomed customers from around the world who have been blown away by the experience."

Alongside expanding its Inverness fleet for the 2019 tourist season, the company has its sights set on opening a second base near Edinburgh Airport.

Mr Harrison added: "Our immediate priority is to expand the fleet and grow the business from Inverness and we are working with local tourism partners to help achieve this.

"Thereafter, our aim is to expand the service into the central belt and create a model that allows customers to pick up a motorhome in Edinburgh and then drop it off in Inverness or vice versa. No-one else currently offers this service. It could be a game changer in terms of customer service."
