Man arrested after crash involving car and lorry which left teenage girl dead

A man has been arrested following a crash involving a car and a lorry that left a teenage girl dead and saw a woman taken to hospital.

The collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and an HGV happened at about 11.50pm on Monday June 9, on the Boghead roundabout in Bathgate.

Emergency services attended and the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An 18-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

Police Scotland said the 20-year-old man who was arrested has been released pending further inquiries.

The force confirmed the circumstances surrounding the incident have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, which investigates incidents involving policing bodies in Scotland.
