A LOCAL woman has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years and placed on 12 months probation for neglecting her pet dog.

Marlana Uppal, of Station Drive, Ardersier pled guilty at Inverness Sheriff Court today (Monday) for failing to provide a suitable diet and living environment for her eight-year-old Chinese crested powder puff dog Paddy and not protecting him from suffering, injury and disease.

Senior Inspector Andy Brown with the Scottish SPCA said, "We're happy that the court has imposed a 10 year ban as this poor dog was living in awful conditions and was not given the care he required.

"Paddy was severely emaciated, had overgrown nails and his coat had to be shaved as it was badly matted and soaked in urine.

"Thankfully he made a full recovery and we found him a loving new home."
