NICK Ross is determined to prove his worth to Caley Thistle in the second half of the season.

The recent award of a two-year contract while still recovering from a long-term injury was a timely, if unexpected, boost for the midfielder.

Ross has been sidelined since the end of August last year with a dislocated shoulder he sustained in a match against Celtic that required surgery.

He may hardly have kicked a ball in five months, but so highly thought of is Ross that the club saw fit to secure the future of a player who would have been out of contract at the end of the season.

For the 21-year-old, the reward of a new deal came as something of a surprise given his lengthy absence, but now back in action he is keen to make a big impact.

"I definitely want to repay the faith that’s been shown in me, especially since I’ve been injured and not knowing what’s going to happen," said Ross.

"You don’t play for months and then you get offered a two-year deal. Things like that don’t happen very often.

"It’s great for me. Now I just want to get back and show why I got it."
