THE funeral took place today of former Wick Academy footballer, Jamie Gunn.
The 34-year-old, who lived and worked in Glasgow, died suddenly at his home in Rutherglen on Sunday, December 23. His funeral service took place at Wick St Fergus Church at 11.45am and he was later interred at Wick cemetery.
Mr Gunn, whose brother Craig plays football for Elgin City in the Scottish Third Division, was from Caithness and lived at the family home in Baron’s Well in Wick before moving south.
He played for Caithness county league side Wick Thistle and Wick Academy, when the team was in the North Caledonian League.
At the time of his death, Academy general manager Pat Miller, paid tribute to him and said: “ I knew him since he was a kid and a more pleasant lad you could not meet. He always had the potential to be a really good footballer. He all the skills and could have made it. He was a nice lad and what has happened to him is tragic.”
Mr Gunn, who was a manager of one of the Celtic stores in Glasgow, is survived by his brothers, Craig and Marc, sister, Claire and parents, James and Margaret Gunn.
