Capital chance for Cans
FORRES Mechanics will need to dish out some capital punishment if they are to make progress in the William Hill Scottish Cup this season.
The Cans were held to a 2-2 draw by Civil Service Strollers in Saturday’s first round tie at Mosset Park, and will replay in Edinburgh next weekend.
The eventual winners of the tie have been drawn away to League 2 leaders Edinburgh City in the second round draw, which was made at teatime on Saturday.
Forres went behind to a Robbie Laird header on 15 minutes before a long range cracker by Alan Pollock drew them level five minutes before the break.
An even better volley by Pollock on 67 minutes put Mechanics on course for the next round until a late goal by sub David Churchill earned Strollers a second chance.
Lossiemouth went down 6-0 away to Gala Fairydean Rovers while Buckie Thistle also exited the competition, losing 3-1 at Edusport Academy with Stevie Ross on target for Jags.
Elgin City have been given a home draw against Whitehill Welfare in round two.
The Black and Whites were in League 2 action on Saturday losing 4-1 at Clyde, with Jordan Lowdon scoring for Elgin and Rabin Omar being sent off.
Elsewhere in the Scottish Cup, Deveronvale made progress with a 2-1 win at home to Bonnyrigg Rose.
Grant Noble and Sam Robertson had Vale 2-0 up inside 20 minutes and they held on for victory.
The Banff side could now have a second round derby match at home to Keith if the Kynoch Park men win at University of Stirling on Sunday.
Brora Rangers, who made the last sixteen last year, came from 3-1 down to beat Turriff United 4-3 earning themselves a home draw against Coldstream, who won 2-0 at Strathspey.
Cove Rangers enter the competition in round two and host Auchinleck Talbot, who beat Fort William 3-0.
Formartine United also got a first round bye and make the trip to League 2 strugglers Albion Rovers in the next round.
