Rothes make point with super comeback

ROTHES staged a late comeback to pull off a thrilling 3-3 Highland League draw at Formartine United.

Steven MacDonald’s side trailed 3-1 in Pitmedden to a Garry Wood second minute opener and an Archie Macphee double, with Elgin City loan defender Ashley Ballam netting his first goal for the Speysiders.

Scott Davidson pulled one back with ten minutes to go and Steven Anderson rescued a point for Rothes in the final minute.

Stuart Soane was Forres Mechanics’ matchwinner yet again as they won 2-1 at home to Turriff.

Soane, who netted the only goal in the Cans’ win at Huntly a week earlier, scored the opener at Mosset Park before David Ross levelled for Turriff midway through the second half.

It was Soane again who came up with the winner for Mechanics.

Lossiemouth battled well with champions and leaders Cove Rangers to keep the scoresheet blank for 35 minutes at Balmoral Stadium.

Eventually the Aberdonians won 4-0 but the young Coasters side made their hosts work hard for the points.

Buckie Thistle went down 2-1 at Fraserburgh after conceding a second minute opener to Marc Dickson’s strike.

Declan Milne levelled soon after but Paul Young’s strike for Broch on 26 minutes proved to be the winner.

Keith were no match for a strong Brora Rangers side who won 4-0 at Kynoch Park.

Deveronvale hit the goal trail at bottom side Fort William with eight unanswered strikes.

An own goal was followed by efforts from Leszek Nowosielski, Harry Noble, Robert Scott (2), Grant Noble, Sam Robertson and Lewis Dunbar.

Both teams finished with ten men as Fort’s Andy Hunter and Vale’s Jody Munro saw red.

Huntly picked up a solid 3-1 success at Clach with Nick Gray’s first goal for the club opening thir account, and Ross Still and Gary McGowan sealing it either side of half time.

Strathspey Thistle shocked Nairn County 1-0 with Craig MacMillan grabbing the goal.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was Inverurie Locos’ 6-2 thumping away at Wick Academy.
