JIMMY Calderwood has taken over as the new manager at Ross County.

The former Aberdeen boss is in charge until the end of the season and takes over following the sacking earlier this week of previous manager Willie McStay after just nine games in charge.

Calderwood was unveiled at a press conference at Victoria Park today (Thursday).

He said: “Anybody I’ve spoken to about Ross County has said what a good club it is. It’s run by football men and you can see the quality of players they’ve got.”

Calderwood’s main task will be to lift County clear of relegation trouble and believes the club’s players need to take their share of responsibility for the team’s current predicament.

He said: “I think the players really have got to have a good look at themselves.

“The club should be at least in the top four or five, if not higher.

“But nobody’s going to feel sorry for you and help you – you’ve got to do the job yourself.”

Ross County chairman Roy MacGregor said: “I am absolutely delighted that Jimmy has agreed to join us and has been able and very willing to get to work straight away.

“In Jimmy we have secured the services of a manager with a proven track record of success in the First Division as well as extensive experience of managing in the SPL.

“We hope that his experience and motivational abilities will help the team rise to the very real challenges they face in the remainder of the season.”
