Warrant issued for pregnant speeder
A pregnant woman who clocked 107 miles per hour while she was being pursued by the police in the rain has had a warrant issued for her arrest.
Twenty-two-year-old Ellen MacInnes previously admitted driving dangerously on the A9.
MacInnes, who was originally charged with trying to evade capture by racing away from the police, was due to be sentenced at Perth Sheriff Court today but failed to appear.
Solicitor David Holmes told the court MacInnes had pled guilty by letter in April and had been informed by telephone subsequently that she had been banned from driving on an interim basis.
He said she had been 35 weeks pregnant at that stage but had since been told to come to court and he added he had no explanation why she had not turned up.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said she had been given "the opportunity to appear under her own steam" and had failed so he issued a warrant for her arrest.
MacInnes, of Drummond Crescent, Inverness, admitted driving dangerously on the A9 Inverness to Perth road while it was raining, the road surface was wet, and she was speeding at 107 mph.
She admitted speeding in a gold Vauxhall Corsa Active 1.2l just north of the junction with the Dalnacardoch to Trinafour road on 17th September last year.
Fiscal depute Stuart Richardson said: "It went on for a while - part of it was on the dual carriageway and part was on the single carriageway where there is a 60 mph limit."
