Train window smashed, schoolboys accused of stone throwing

PARENTS are being urged to warn their children about the dangers of playing near railway lines after a report of three boys breaking a train window throwing stones from a bridge.

The youngsters — one aged 11 and two 13-year-olds — are now the subject of a British Transport Police report to the procurator fiscal in connection with the incident which targeted a train leaving Inverness.

The boys allegedly threw stones from Clunes Overbridge, in Kirkhill, at the Inverness to Wick train at around 6.20pm on Sunday.

A window smashed but nobody was injured.

"Invariably we see an increase in the number of route crime incidents, such as stone throwing, when the school summer holidays commence," said constable Matt O’Neill of British Transport Police, based at Inverness.

"I would urge parents to ensure that they know where their children are and make sure they warn them of the great dangers that can be posed by the railway."
