BANFF Sailing Club held its summer regatta recently.

Seven yachts travelled out from Whitehills and Banff harbours to take part in three races in Banff bay.

Club secretary Helen Robbins said: "We were delighted to welcome boat owners and sailors from Banff and surrounding harbours.

"The sea conditions were challenging at the start with lumpy seas, a steady wind and some rain showers, however, as predicted the blue sky eventually reached Banff and the conditions became calmer so much so that the third race was extended.

"The hungry sailors and support people were then served a delicious meal. Overall it was another successful event."

The prize giving took place later in the evening in the clubhouse.

Results:

Class one – 1 Respectable, Tony Wright; 2 Touchdown, Alistair Mackie; 3 Dignity, Euan Paterson; 4 Fraternity, John West.

Class two – 1 Sea Swallow, Sandy Baird; 2 Blue Pegasus, Frank Watt; 3 UFOR, Ivor Clarke. 707 class: Touchdown.

Buccaneer Marine Chandlery sponsored the prizes for the regatta.

Banff Sailing Club has about 70 members who sail a variety of vessels. Members with boats tend to keep them in Banff or Whitehills marinas, with Macduff harbour also close by.

The club provides the opportunity to try sailing on one of our member's yachts or on one of the club's 707 keel boats.

There is usually someone out sailing on any weekend except on the rare occasion that the weather is inclement. The club celebrated its milestone 40th anniversary in 2015.
